About Street Sweeping
Street sweeping takes place year-round. On a typical day of sweeping, two loads of sand, gravel, dirt, leaves, and debris are collected. Each load averages 7 yards, weighing 8400 pounds or 4.2 tons.
Removing this material saves wear and tear on our streets, prevents the flooding of storm drains after heavy rains and has a positive impact on our environment by keeping this material out drains that lead to San Francisco Bay. In an effort to avoid flooding, catch basins are also cleaned to keep the rain water flowing into the storm drains.
