When you call 415-456-2601 to start your new service, you may select the size can that best suits your needs. Rates are based on tipper can size. You may change the size of your tipper can at any time by calling the number above.
The tipper cans provided to our customers work with our semi-automated collection system, so they must be placed at the curb the night before your service day. If this is not possible, please inform the office and a route supervisor will discuss the problem with you. In this case, you may be required to supply your own container and a distance fee will be applied.
Yard Waste Container
Marin Sanitary Service also provides the most effective yard waste container available: the Compostainer. The German-made container developed by the Schaefer Company has a unique, patented design that ensures maximum aeration, eliminating odor, reducing mass, and beginning the composting process immediately. The wheeled container has a 64-gallon capacity, and is extremely convenient for use in the garden and for rolling to the curb.
Yard waste diverted from the landfill prevents the release of methane gas, a powerful greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Thank you for composting your yard waste it is an important step towards zero waste.
Dual Sort System
State-of-the-art, user-friendly carts and specialized trucks reduce recycling contamination and increase recycling rates. The carts separate glass, cans, and plastics from paper in order to prevent clean, dry paper from becoming soiled by residues left on other recyclables. Before this system was adopted, more than 30 percent of the refuse still sent to the landfill was contaminated paper. Paper recycling also results in increased carbon sequestration by forests since fewer trees need to be harvested for wood and paper products.
The unique dual sort cart prevents contamination.

The dual sort trucks empty from each side, paper on one side, glass, cans and plastic on the other.
