In 1996, Marin Sanitary Service extended its services to include street sweeping. We currently have contracts with the City of Larkspur and the Town of Ross. In an effort to avoid flooding, catch basins are also cleaned to keep the rain water flowing into the storm drains. The street sweeping takes place year-round. On a typical day of sweeping, two loads of sand, gravel, dirt, leaves, and debris are collected. Each load averages 7 yards, weighing 8400 pounds or 4.2 tons. Removing this material saves wear and tear on our streets, and has a positive impact on our environment by keeping this material out the storm drains and out of the San Francisco Bay.
